When Francesco Marchisa was born on February 8, 1835, in Fubine, Alessandria, Italy, his father, Cristoforo Marchisa, was 23 and his mother, Maria Anna Maddalena Quartero, was 19. He married Francesca Ippolita Gotta in 1857 in Fubine, Italy. They had ten children in 25 years. Francesco died on January 30, 1918, in Glastonbury, Connecticut, at the age of 82 years, and is buried at St. Augustine’s cemetery in Glastonbury, CT. Francesca Ippolita Gotta was born in October of 1838 in Fubine, to Francesco Gotta and Angela Maria Catterina Anzino. Francesca died at the age of 78 in Glastonbury, Connecticut. Like her husband, Francesca is buried in St. Augustine’s cemetery in Glastonbury , CT. Both Francesco and Francesca likely died after contracting the Spanish Flu.
Francesco was a farmer in Fubine and owned a house and land in the Garlaschi area. Francesco emigrated to the US with his wife Ippolita on October 12 1905 leaving the port of Genova on the SS Princess Irene. Their son Cristoforo, who lived in Genova with his family, saw them off. Francesco and Ippolita , upon arriving in New York, temporarily lived with their daughter Francesca and her husband Julio Ferraris at their apartment on 341 W 38th St. in Manhattan. Also living there at the time was Alessandro Marchisa, another son of theirs.
Francesca Ippolita is our family’s connection to Valerio Anzino. Ippolita’s mother, Angela Anzino, and Valerio’s father, Giovanni, were brother and sister. Ippolita and Valerio were 1st cousins.
